Volunteer at QuiltCon 2027

We Need You!

Volunteering is a fun and meaningful way to experience QuiltCon! Volunteers are at the heart of QuiltCon - and the show simply would not be possible without all of the amazing volunteers who help make it happen.

It is an opportunity to meet new people, connect with quilters from around the world, and get a unique behind-the-scenes view of the show.

Many volunteers describe it as one of the most rewarding and memorable parts of their QuiltCon experience, filled with friendship, community, and fun.

Each volunteer receives a special shirt as a thank you for their service.

Join in, lend a hand, and be a part of the team that makes QuiltCon so special!

NEW SYSTEM THIS YEAR! Shift sign-ups will open on September 28 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern/6:00 p.m. UTC.

Step-by-step instructions on creating an account and registering to volunteer are in the FAQs below.

Our volunteers have a lot to share with you!

  • "I came to QuiltCon alone, and the day I volunteered was the day I felt most connected to other people."
  • "I have made some wonderful quilt friends over the years."
  • "I loved getting to meet and talk to other volunteers and guests, it made me feel like l was a part of the event."
  • "I loved seeing all the happy faces at the door, welcoming them, and helping attendees find what they needed to enjoy the event."
  • "I met lots of new friends and got to contribute in an actual, visible way."
  • "I met so many people and had fun. I would do it again in a heartbeat!"

QuiltCon would not be possible without the help of our amazing volunteers

Volunteers assist show staff setting up the quilt show by hanging and steaming quilts, assembling goodie bags, preparing the workshop rooms, assembling the goodie bags, and setting up the MQG Shop by unpacking, folding, and organizing the merchandise.

During the event, volunteers greet attendees, provide directions, manage lines, help with badge printing, and hand out goodie bags and lanyards. They also sell and scan passes, assist in the shop and bag check areas, and serve as white glove volunteers - helping attendees view quilts safely while ensuring no one touches them or brings food or drinks near them.

When the show is over, volunteers pack up the workshop rooms, take down all of the quilts, and carefully fold and pack them to be shipped safely home.

Top Volunteer Scheduling Tips

  • View the schedule as “List” rather than “Calendar.” QuiltCon has so many shifts on each day that it is difficult to view them in calendar view.
  • Use the “Join Waitlist” button if a shift you want is already filled.
  • Use the filters to sort the schedule by opportunity type, day of the week, and availability.
  • Consecutive shifts in the same opportunity type may overlap by 15 minutes (no longer). Do not overlap shifts in different opportunity types.
  • Click the “Sign Up” button below, then the “Get Involved” button on the next page to fill out the QuiltCon 2027 Registration form.
    • If it is your first time using Vome Volunteer, you will be prompted to create an account before filling out the form.
    • Step-by-step instructions are in the FAQs below.
Sign-ups open on September 28 at 2:00 Eastern Time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Go to the QuiltCon presented by the MQG volunteer page.
  2. Register to volunteer by scrolling down the page and clicking the “Get Involved” button to fill out the QuiltCon 2027 Registration form.

If this is your first time using Vome, you will be prompted to create an account first.

There are two ways to create an account:

  1. Email and password. Sign up with your email address and confirm it with a 4-digit code.

  1. Sign up with Continue with Google, Microsoft, or Apple, and your provider handles the authentication.

Important note: You must sign in the same way you signed up every time you log in. If you created your account with Continue with Google, Microsoft, or Apple, you must click Continue with them every time. Typing an email and password will not work, because there is no Vome password on that account to type in.
*** If you cannot remember which you used, try the social buttons first. They fail harmlessly if that is not your account type.

Once you have created your account:
  1. Go to the Welcome to Vome Volunteer confirmation email and click the "Log in to Vome" button.
  2. Log in to your new account, and you should be directed back to the registration form to finish registering.
Note: On some devices, you may be automatically redirected back to the form.

Here is the link to the QuiltCon 2027 Registration form if needed.

Complete the registration form:
  1. Select your T-shirt size.
  2. Select “Yes” to indicate you understand that you may be reassigned at any time during your shift to meet event needs.

Note: While you may choose shifts in the shift calendar in the form, the shifts are easier to view and navigate from your home page after you submit the form.

  3. Check and sign the waiver
  4. Click "Submit".
You will be given the opportunity to download the Vome Volunteer app. This is not required.

Then you should be directed to your account homepage where you can:
  1. Click “Reserve shifts” to reserve a shift
  2. Click “View my shifts” to see what you have already signed up for
  3. Click the gear icon to customize your notification settings

If you have any trouble or questions, contact us at volunteers@themodernquiltguild.com, and we will be happy to help you.

  1. Go to your volunteer account homepage
  2. Click “View my shifts”
  3. Select the shift you want to cancel.
  4. Click on “Cancel Reservation”
Important: Canceling a shift as soon as you know you can not work it allows those who are on the waitlist to be notified so that the shift can be filled.

Yes!

  • Click the “Join Waitlist” button for the shift you want to join the waitlist for.
  • The system will send a notification email and/or push notification, if enabled, when the shift opens with the subject line, “A spot has become available for the shift you were on a waitlist for.”
  • Click the “Reserve Your Spot” link in the notification to claim the shift.

Please note: The notification will go to everyone on the waitlist, and the shift will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yes, as long as you leave them on in your notification settings, you will receive a reminder 48 hours before the shift start time and 1 hour before the shift start time.

  1. Go to your volunteer account homepage.
Click the gear icon in the menu, or your profile drop-down arrow, and choose “Settings.”
Click “Push Notifications” to turn them on or off as desired.
Click “Email” to turn email notifications on or off as desired

You will automatically get an email for each shift you reserve, cancel, join the waitlist for, or if a waitlist spot opens.

Below are the reminder notifications we plan to use and recommend leaving on.

  • Confirm Attendance - Confirm your attendance 48 hours before the shift start time.
  • Upcoming Shift Reminder - Get a reminder an hour before the shift start time.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first shift to allow time to check in and to pick up your T-shirt. You are welcome to wear the shirt over your current top or change into it. There are restrooms nearby for changing.

Pick up your volunteer T-shirt when checking in for your first shift. You will need to wear the QuiltCon Volunteer T-shirt for each shift you work. This helps attendees to recognize volunteers and is important for convention center security.

On your volunteer account home page under “My Impact,” your Hours Logged are your completed hours.

You may leave your belongings in the volunteer room while working your shift at your own risk. There will be someone in the room at all times, or it will be locked. You can also pay to leave your belongings in the bag check area.
