Textile Surface Design: Experimental Techniques

In this webinar, Tim will demonstrate a broad range of experimental screen printing and pigment dying that work great for creating medium to large-scale fabrics. In addition to screen printing, Tim will show a series of monoprinting techniques like canning, spraying, quick masks and brushing that don’t require screens but can create beautiful textures and fabrics. Finally, he’ll show how to pigment dye fabric on a large and small scale. The goal is to simplify and demystify fabric surface design so you can get started immediately.

About the Contributor

Tim Eads is an artist and master printer in Philadelphia. He received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and teaches at Moore College of Art and Tyler School of Art. He’s also a regular instructor at Penland School of Craft. Eads spent six years as a printer and project coordinator at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. Recent exhibitions include Pentimenti Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Delaware Art Museum, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington, DE; Dumbo Arts Center, Brooklyn, NY. Eads is in the public collections of The West Collection, Kirkland Museum of Decorative Arts, and The Please Touch Museum.
