Introducing MQG Modern Classics

The MQG is going back in time to re-release some of our favorite patterns of the month and we are inviting you to join in for a chance to have a quilt included in a special exhibit for QuiltCon 2021 in Atlanta!

In honor of the MQG’s tenth anniversary, we’ve decided to dust off a few of our favorite patterns and relaunch them in an all-new color palette. During the course of the year, we will share twelve quilts previously released as Quilt of the Month patterns. We are calling this MQG Modern Classics and we’d love for you to join in on the fun!

Choose any MQG pattern in the Resources section and make it using our 2020 color palette. Follow along with the fun using the hashtag #mqgmodernclassic and enter your quilt to be a part of a special MQG Modern Classics exhibit at QuiltCon 2021.

To be eligible for the exhibit, a quilt must be made from an MQG Quilt of the Month released prior to 2020 and in the 2020 color palette.

Frequently Asked Questions:

While we’d love to see all of your interpretations on the hashtags #showusyourmqg and #mqgmodernclassic, if you want to enter your quilt in the special exhibit at QuiltCon 2021 there are a few rules to consider.

Do we have to use all fabrics in the palette?

No, you do not have to use all of the fabrics in the palette. Feel free to use as many as you’d like, but please only use the fabrics in the designated color palette.

Can we use fabrics outside of the color palette?

No, we want to see how our members make these past patterns their own using only the seven solid colored fabrics listed above.

Can we reinterpret the pattern?

No, please use the original pattern to create your contribution to MQG Modern Classics. We want members to use the MQG Modern Classics color palette to reinterpret the quilt rather than make changes to the quilt design itself.

Are there maximum or minimum size requirements?

Please look to the quilt pattern you want to make for the finished quilt size. To qualify for a space at QuiltCon 2021, the quilt can’t be scaled up or scaled down from the original pattern.
