The Omaha MQG was inspired by using gradients as a color theme. We wanted to involve as many of our Guild members as possible. We had 32 members participate in making our quilt this year! We chose to use a simple 9 patch which is one of the earliest quilt patterns in history to combine with one of the latest color trends in gradients. Ombre’s have been a popular trend and we chose Jennifer Sampou’s Amethyst Sky Ombre. We cut the cloth into strips for the kits for members to take home with light/dark combinations for members to construct the 9 patches. Then we used a design wall to place the blocks to achieve a similar effect the is reminiscent of the Radiant Ninepatch by Blanche Young that was originally published by C&T publishing in 1991. We love the way it turned out and it’s a great reminder that many factors influence an outcome of a quilt. Radiance 2023 is a perfect example of color placement elevating the design using a simple 9 patch block.
