Our quilt was inspired by the beautiful #wavediamondquilt by the prolific quilter, Saija Kiiskinen of Helsinki, Finland (@saija_elina on Instagram). We simplified her diamond block into a 4″ by 10″ two-color block with curved piecing. We thought it would be a fun way to encourage our members to practice curved piecing. This quilt top was completed in 3 sew days. Although we heard a lot of, “I can’t sew curves,” They all did amazing work and all the blocks were sewn in the first day. The layout and rows were completed the second day, and by the end of the third day we had a complete, but untrimmed quilt top. A couple of our brave members volunteered to trim the quilt to size. Not an easy task because of large size and skewed angle, but it turned out great! Our member, Kelley Bachli did a fantastic job choosing the quilt design and quilting it for us. Her work really enhanced the organic current implied by our design. We had a contest to pick the quilt name and Kelley was our winner.
